Western Cape: Yesterday at about 12:40, a Belhar SAPS patrol vehicle received a report of a possible attempted hijacking in Arundel Street, Belhar. Upon arrival a white Bantam LDV was driving at high speed coming from the opposite side. Members followed the vehicle which was abandoned by the two suspects at the corner of Belhar Drive and Arundel Road, after which they attempted to flee on foot. The members proceeded to follow the suspects on foot and managed to arrest the 18 and 22 year old suspects. 

On investigating the vehicle, it was found that the Ford Bantam LDV was reported stolen in Bellville.

The two suspects who reside in Delft and Nyanga East respectively face charges of attempted hijacking, theft of motor vehicle and the possession of suspected stolen property and will appear in Bellville Court on 4 September 2015.

Captain Herman De Jager, the Acting Station Commander of Belhar praised his members for an excellent piece of police work with the detention of the suspects.
