Nelspruit:  Five suspects appeared at the Emalahleni Magistrates’ Court yesterday, Tuesday 27 June 2023 after being caught with suspected stolen chrome valued at about R1.5 Million in Witbank on Friday, 23 June 2023.

According to the report, on the said Friday security personnel from SSG company received some information about a courier train that was transporting chrome between Ferro bank (near Witbank) and Richards Bay. Further allegations was that the train was stopped by a group of suspects. The information was shared with the men and women in blue from Witbank who then coordinated resources as a backup to deal with the situation.

It is further alleged that the group of suspects somehow got inside the train then stole chrome. The police in collaboration with SSG security guards bravely went to the scene at Olifants plot on the R555 Old Middelburg Road to confront the suspects.

Upon arrival, that was when the five suspects were apprehended by the law enforcement agencies. The five were then charged for theft of chrome. Chrome was also confiscated at the scene.

The suspects that appeared in court has since been identified as Alex Sutho (18), Manilo Kabelo (20), Dennis Khoza (22), Emmanuel Khoza (23) and Jarpano Marimi (24). They were all remanded in custody and are expected to appear again on 04 July 2023 for a formal bail application.

The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has noted the collaboration between members of the SAPS and security officers with much gratitude as it yielded positive results.
