KIMBERLEY - The Northern Cape Deputy Provincial Commissioner for Policing Major General Johnny Besnaar accompanied by the Provincial Head of Pro- Active Policing and the Women’s Network Champion, Brigadier Irene Kopeledi and the Provincial Head for Corporate Communication, Brigadier Mashay Gamieldien led Operation Basadi actions in Barkly West, Windsorton and Delportshoop in the Frances Baard District on 1 August 2025.

Senior officers and members from provincial components, and  local police stations as well as the K9 Unit and the Tactical Response Team participated in various crime prevention operations, including roadblocks and stop-and-search initiatives and compliance inspections. These efforts specifically targeted gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF), extortion, drug-related offenses, the proliferation of firearms, and contact crimes.

These operations were conducted simultaneously across all five districts of the province as part of a unified and coordinated crime-combatting strategy in observance of Women’s Month.

Activities and police actions will be executed across the province for the duration of Women’s Month aligned with this year’s theme: "Accelerate Action: Rights, Equality,  Empowerment for ALL Women and Girls".
