Tumahole: On Monday, 31 July 2023 the Parys Regional Court sentenced 35-year-old David Tshabalala to 15 years imprisonment. On Friday, 25 March 2023 at about 20:00, the 16-year-old victim left her aunt's house in Schonkenville section with two of her friends for a sleepover in Mbeki section. On their way to Mbeki section, a fight ensued between the friends and the victim decided to walk back home after she picked up her clothes at a friend's house. On her way back, she met an unknown male who allegedly forced himself to walk with her. While they were walking in the Tambo section, the suspect pulled the victim into an open veld, where he started to strangle and rape her. The suspect continued to threaten her, saying that if she made any form of noise, he would kill her. The victim cooperated in order to save her life, and then the suspect took the victim to his home, where he continued to rape her. On Saturday morning 26 March 2023 at about 06:00, the victim was ordered by the suspect to freshen up and leave. The suspect told the victim to come back during the day to pick up R800 cash in order for her not to tell anyone about what had happened. The victim went home and informed her family about the ordeal and the family accompanied her to Tumahole SAPS to open a case of rape because she is a minor. The Fezile Dabi District Commissioner, Major General Moses Makubo, condemned such behaviour, especially during women's month and applauded all the members involved for ensuring that such perpetrators end up behind bars and justice is served.
