Media Statement from KwaZulu Natal Media Centre A 28-year-old man is due to appear in the Umbumbulu Magistrate’s Court today, 11 July 2016 for attempted murder while the detectives are investigating his involvement in another case. The man was arrested at Glebelands Hostel over the weekend by the Provincial Task Team as well as members of the National Intervention Unit (NIU). He was wanted for attempted murder at KwaMakhutha and hijacking at Bayview area, south of Durban. The suspect was among a group of man who were driving a hijacked Grey Hyndai in KwaMakhutha area in July last year where occupants fired shots towards police officers who were chasing them. On 21 July 2015 at about 22:00 the members were on duty conducting crime prevention duties at KwaMakhutha area when they saw a suspicious-looking Handai vehicle with five occupants. When the suspects noticed that they were followed by the police, they allegedly started to shoot towards the members and sped off. Police gave chase and the suspect’s vehicle overturned in the area. Occupants fled the scene of foot. A case of attempted murder was opened at KwaMakhutha police station for further investigation. The same vehicle used by suspects was hijacked at Bayview area in June 2015. Police are still looking for other outstanding suspects who were involved in both of these cases. .
