Media Statement from Western Cape Media Centre This morning, Mitchell’s Plain SAPS executed a cordon and search operation with other Law Enforcement agencies including Public Order Police, SANDF, SARS, Immigration, Provincial Traffic, Metro police and other SAPS operation units in the Town Centre. The operation is not only focussed on undocumented foreign nationals who are involved drug trafficking, counterfeit goods and buying of stolen goods, but also to prevent the criminal elements who are frequenting the Town Centre to committing crime. Counterfeit goods to the value of R1.215 million were confiscated during the operation at various informal trading shops. During the operation Immigration officials detained 39 foreign nationals who were processed and their status verified. Our duty is to serve and protect our communities. We recognise that we must therefore regularly account to the public about how we go about policing in partnership with communities further we urge the community to remain vigilant and to contact their respective Sector Commanders and for those who have not yet joined our structures to join us by becoming part of their street committees in their respective streets.
