THABONG - On Sunday, 13 August 2023 at about 14:00, members of Welkom K9 Unit, together with Welkom and Thabong Task Teams, received information of a hijacking at gunpoint that occurred in the 2010 Section of Thabong. The complainant was apparently shot at.

The information was operationalized, and the hijacked truck was found and seized. A 31-year-old suspect was arrested and he was found in possession of drugs, the truck keys, a 9mm firearm with 13 live rounds of ammunition, the victim’s cellphone and a truck battery.

The suspect is facing charges of hijacking, unlawful possession of firearm and ammunition, and possession of suspected stolen property. He will appear in the Welkom Magistrate Court soon.
