WESTERN CAPE - On Thursday, 24 August 2023, police members attached to Cape Town K9 Unit arrested an adult male for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and a hijacked vehicle in Harare, Khayelitsha. The members were busy with patrols in the area when they noticed a suspicious vehicle. They stopped the vehicle and the driver sped off with the police members in pursuit. A high speed chase ensued and the vehicle suddenly stopped and the suspect jumped out and fled. The patrol dog was utilized and the suspect was apprehended. A 9mm pistol and the hijacked vehicle were recovered.

The suspect will appear in the Khayelitsha Magistrates’ court on Monday, 28 August 2023 on the mentioned charges.

In an unrelated matter police members attended to a complaint of a shooting in Masiphumele, in Ocean View on Thursday afternoon. Upon arrival on the scene the members noticed two males running away in different directions and gave chase. Both suspects were apprehended and two 9 mm pistols with ammunition were found in their possession respectively.

The suspects will appear in the Simon’s Town Magistrates court on Monday for the possession of unlicensed firearm.
