Anti-Gang Unit makes inroads by removing firearms, ammunition and drugs from the streets

WESTERN CAPE - Multiple operations by members attached to Anti-Gang Unit led to several arrests and confiscations of firearms, ammunition and drugs.

An intelligence driven operation conducted on Sunday, 23 November 2025 led to the recovery of a firearm and ammunition in Manenberg. The members received information of a person in possession of a firearm in Letaba Street Manenberg. This information was operationalised and the team proceeded to the premises, and as they entered, a male was seen throwing a firearm behind a wendy house in the back of the yard. The members found a Norinco .45 calibre pistol with seven .45 calibre rounds of ammunition. An 18-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

At 14:28 the members were posted in Grassy Park area to combat ongoing gang violence within the area. They followed up information of a person in possession of firearms at a premises in Parkers Walk, Parkwood. The members conducted a search and found a 27-year-old male in possession of Taures Brasil .38 Special revolver and one round of ammunition. He was arrested for possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition. 

In Steenberg the members assisted Mitchells Plain District Crime Intelligence with a search and seizure operation for suspects in possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition at a premises in Chapel Road, Lavender Hill. It was also alleged that these suspects are storing drugs in the ground in the backyard. 

They secure the premises and on their arrival at the backyard found two suspects busy digging out the drugs buried in the ground. The suspects were contained and in the ground members confiscated mandrax tablets and pain medication.

A female, aged 22 and a male, aged 38, were arrested for possession of mandrax and possession of prescribed substances as per Act 101/1965 schedule 3 and detained at Steenberg SAPS.

While members were busy conducting patrols in the Capricorn area, for the ongoing gang shootings in Muizenberg they received information of a suspect who is selling drugs at a premises in Vuyo Road, Capricorn. It was also mentioned that the shop are selling medicine without prescription and that drugs are being stored at the premises.

The members followed up the information and searched the shop, in the presence of the owner and underneath the till counter, they found and confiscates three 100ml bottles of pain medication. and six bunches of the drug CAT.

A 48-year-old suspect was arrested for possession of drugs and possession of prescribed substances as per Act 101/1965schedule 3. He was detained at Muizenberg SAPS.

The members also arrested four suspects on 23 November 2025 while deployed in the Kensington area due to ongoing gang violence in the area. Following a peace march which was well represented by community members, shootings started which left one person injured. 

The members followed up on information and proceeded to an address in Glider Crescent, Factreton. A suspect was caught with a firearm after he was trying to dispose of it by throwing it on the roof. A Vector CPI 9mm pistol without a serial number and different calibre rounds of ammunition were found and confiscated. A 34-year-old male was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

Furthermore, they proceeded to another premises in Glider Crescent, and conducted a thorough search of the premises. A 27-year-old female was found in possession of a Parabellum 9mm pistol without a serial number and 12 rounds of ammunition. The suspect was arrested for possession of a prohibited firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

While on foot patrol members saw a suspicious looking male in Acre Road, Factreton. They stopped and searched him and found a Vektor 9mm pistol firearm with 12 rounds of ammunition in his possession. He was arrested for possession of a unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

A 20-year-old male was also arrested on a Kensington for attempted murder case reported early in November 2025. 

The suspects will appear in the Athlone, Wynberg and Cape Town Magistrates’ Court’s today, 24 November 2025, for their respective charges.

Western Cape Provincial Commissioner Lt. Gen (Adv.) Thembisile Patekile has commended the unrelenting efforts of all the police officials involved in all  the operations and the communities for their involvement in the fight against crime.
