VILLIERS - A motor vehicle accident involving two cars claimed the lives of four people while sixteen persons sustained injuries. The accident occurred along the R26 Road, about 5 km from Villiers.

On Saturday, 02 September 2023 at about 20:55, the police in Villiers received a complaint of an accident on the R26.  Members swiftly rushed to the accident scene and upon arrival they found a Mahindra LDV lying on its side with two occupants, the driver and a passenger.

The 18 injured passengers were transported to Mafube hospital for medical examination. The following day, 03 September 2023, an investigating officer was informed by Mafube Hospital personnel that two more passengers have succumbed to their injuries.

It alleged that the injured passengers were on the back of a bakkie at the time of the accident. It is reported that the driver of the bakkie swerved to avoid an accident with an oncoming vehicle causing him to lose control of the vehicle.

All the deceased have been positively identified. A case of culpable homicide is registered and investigation continues.
