Police investigates fatal shooting of two taxi drivers and attempted murder of other drivers

NELSPRUIT - The Provincial Commissioner of the SAPS in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General Semakaleng Daphney Manamela has assembled a team of investigators following an incident in which two taxi drivers were fatally shot whilst another taxi driver as well as a bus driver are fighting for their lives in hospital subsequent to have been shot also.

The incident occurred on Thursday, 14 September 2023 at a Calcutta taxi rank ferrying commuters’ to-and-fro Thulamahashe.

According to information, two taxi drivers were fatally shot whilst two other victims were injured during the shootout but were taken to hospital for medical treatment. It is said that the bus driver who is amongst the injured victims, was passing the scene when he was reportedly shot.

The motive behind the shooting is yet to be established pending investigation.

The police appeal to anyone with information that may assist in the investigation, that can lead to the arrest of the perpetrators to call the investigating officer, Detective Captain Prince Mokoena on 013 799 5600.
