Media Statement WINBURG – A manhunt is underway for seven unknown men after a substation was robbed of copper cable. On Wednesday, 20 September 2023 at about 22:00, two security guards were on duty when the door of the guardroom was forced open. Seven unknown men with firearms entered the room and were instructed not to move. The guards were tied up. Two men remained with them, while others went outside. The guards heard a loud sound and the electricity went off. After a while, the two men received a call and left. The security guards then untied themselves and went to the police station to report the matter. One of the guards sustained an injury to the knee as he was hit with a bolt cutter. The substation is near the N1 feeding surrounding farms. The estimated cost of the copper cable is R200 000. No one has been arrested so far and the police are appealing to anyone with information that can assist in the arrest of the suspects to please contact Detective Constable Setjhaba Sello on 071 774 1660.
