Alleged serial rapist arrested

MANGAUNG – The Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit assisted by the Tactical Response Team have arrested an alleged serial rapist in Bloemfontein.

On 05 October 2023 at about 12:00, Parkroad TRT received information about a wanted rapist who had been on the run. The operators went to the house in Phase 7 and found the suspect hiding in a locked shack.

The 27-year-old suspect was arrested and detained. The suspect, who is to appear in court on Monday 09 October 2023 in the Bloemfontein Magistrate Court, was linked through DNA to six rape cases that took place from 2015 with the recent being this year in March 2023.

The ages of the victims are between 16 and 25. He targeted females walking home from a local tavern. The unsuspecting victims were struck on the head with a blunt object and strangled while he forced himself on them.

His victims were attacked in the areas of Phase 4, 3, and 7 in the early hours of Monday or Saturday mornings. Detective Sergeant Anny Peter of the Mangaung Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences Unit worked around the clock with the Tactical Response Team to trace and arrest the rapist.

He will make his first appearance in court on Monday, 09 October 2023 on six rape charges. Investigations continue.
