KABEGA - The role of Community Policing Forums, neighbourhood watches and private security as force multipliers on the ground play a critical role in ensuring that their respective neighbourhoods are safe from criminals.

It is alleged that during the early hours of this morning, Kabega neighbourhood watch apprehended two suspects for the alleged murder and robbery of a 60-year-old man from Van Plettenberg Street in Kabega Park. At about 00:30, the suspects, aged 30 and 38, were stopped and upon searching their bags, they discovered a laptop, medicine container, cigarettes and meat. Police were contacted and further investigation led to a house in Van Plettenberg Street Street where they found the owner lying on the bed. He sustained a deep wound on his head. An axe was found next to the bed. Entry to the house was gained through the sliding door that was force open.

Both suspects are detained on charges of murder, house robbery and possession of suspected stolen property. They are expected to appear in court soon.

Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Maj Gen Vuyisile Ncata commended the neighbourhood watch for the excellent work. ’When communities start working together towards a common cause towards protecting their neighbourhoods, criminals will have no chance to conduct their activities,’ added Maj Gen Ncata.
