On 2 June 2015 the accused, Mhlengi Ayanda Bhengu (30) was finally convicted and sentenced to fifteen years imprisonment by the Ixopo Regional Court. He was convicted after the court heard how he killed a 33-year-old woman at Highflats area in 2014. During September 2014 the body of Thobisile Biyase was found with multiple injuries at Springvale area, Highflats. She was assaulted by the accused who was her boyfriend after an argument. The local police were called to attend and the accused was immediately arrested and charged with murder.

KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni welcome the sentence handed down to the accused. “This will send a strong message to the criminals who kill their vulnerable beloved ones,” she said.
