WESTERN CAPE - In the fight against crime, police in the Western Cape arrested several suspects on charges of attempted murder, possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition, possession of a hijacked vehicle and recovered a container with stolen property. 

Nyanga Crime Prevention Unit were busy with foot patrols on Wednesday, 15 November 2023, when they spotted a suspicious vehicle in Eyadini informal settlement, in Browns Farm with seven occupants. The members tactically approached the vehicle and saw an unknown man pointing a firearm at them. They responded and shot the suspect, which resulted in him sustaining injuries. The adult male was detained and is currently under police guard in hospital, on charges of attempted murder and possession of a prohibited firearm and ammunition. Further investigation indicated that the motor vehicle was reported as being hijacked. The other six males who was still seated in the vehicle was detained on a charge of possession of a hijacked motor vehicle.

Muizenberg police were busy with patrols when they received information of illegal activities at an identified address in Overcome Heights on Wednesday, 15 November 2023. The members proceeded to the address and searched the premises and confiscated a Bryco automatic pistol with an assortment of ammunition. They detained a 43-year-old man on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Western Cape K9 members responded to information about a container truck with cargo stolen in Maitland between Tuesday, 14 November 2023 and Wednesday, 15 November 2023. The information at their disposal led them to a farm in Rondeberg Road in Atlantis where they recovered the cargo, 700 boxes of Turkey worth an estimated street value of R1 million, abandoned. No arrest, investigations continues

The suspects are expected to make their respective court appearances in the Athlone and Muizenberg Magistrate court’s once charged.
