Media Statement Concerted efforts by Western Cape police to eradicate the illicit drug trade yielded excellent results when police confiscated drugs and high-end equipment valued at over R600 000 from an improvised laboratory at a residence situated in Wilderness just outside George. On Thursday, 23 November 2023 at about 10:00 members attached to the Western Cape Provincial Organised Crime Investigation’s Narcotics section and Garden Route District Crime Combatting Team, armed with a search warrant, descended on the address. The team executed the search warrant which stems from a lengthy investigation following reports of suspicious activity in and around the premises. Upon entering the premises police discovered three rooms which were, converted into a cannabis cultivation laboratory, fully equipped with expensive equipment. A total of 327 cannabis plants and 500 gram of dried dagga with an estimated street value of R432 000 were confiscated. Efforts to dismantle the laboratory commenced and equipment which surpasses R200 000 in value, were seized. The 46-year-old occupant was arrested and will remain in police custody. He is expected to make his first court appearance in the George Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 27 November 2023 on charges relating to cultivating of cannabis and dealing in drugs. Western Cape police management commended the team for their sterling efforts to close down the premises. These operations are in line with the operational plan of the province to close down illegal drug outlets from where drugs are being dispersed into vulnerable communities. Ends
