Kimberley:  Northern Cape South African Police Service (SAPS), the Galeshewe and Kagisho Community Police Forums (CPF's) and Sisterhood Non-Government Organization (NGO) engaged in a GBVF discussion on Thursday, 07 December 2023 at the Radio Revival FM Studios in Kimberley.

This was a continuation of engagements that were arranged and facilitated by the Northern Cape Government Communications and Information System (GCIS), and centred around the community role on issues relating to GBVF.

Captain Sabata Tsiu, the Section Commander of the Family Violence, Child Protection, and Sexual Offences (FCS) in Galeshewe, who represented the SAPS in this engagement said, GBVF starts within our homes. Parents need to spend more time with their children rather than negating that responsibility to other people.

Ms Carol Mabotsa, a representative of Sisterhood NGO, an NGO devoted to community development ,emphasised on communities taking ownership of challenges within their areas.

Representatives from the Galeshewe and Kagisho SAPS CPF's Mr Michael Sentletse and Ms Kgakgamatho Motebe spoke addressed the importance of working with the police in the fight against GBVF.

They indicated that men must speak against GBVF in our communities.

Communities must advocate against excessive drinking, domestic violence and the increase in vacant and or abandoned buildings that are a persistent problem in harbouring perpetrators who pounce on innocent victims and must do more in focusing on integrated GBVF programs.
