LIMPOPO - The meritorious efforts demonstrated by the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation have resulted in the arrest of two more suspects aged 25 and 36 in connection with the murder of a police Sergeant, Terrence Kutullo Makgatho (38) who was gunned down at Ga Maijane in Lebowakgomo area. In the early hours of Saturday, 15 July 2023, Makgatho who was off duty but stationed at SAPS-Burgersfort was allegedly shot and killed by unknown suspects who were travelling in a bronze Volkswagen Golf 7 GTI. The National Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, Lt General Godfrey Lebeya immediately ordered the arrest of the suspects within 72 hours. Without any waste of time, the team of seasoned investigators in collaboration with other police units and private entities led by the Provincial Head of the Hawks in Limpopo Province, Major General Gopz Govender was assembled. On the very same day (15 July 2023) the investigation led the team to Braamfontein in Johannesburg where a suspicious vehicle with 3 occupants was spotted driving in the area. The team tactically stopped the vehicle and subsequently arrested the driver, Moses Mphahlele (33) as one of the suspects in the murder of Sergeant Makgatho. The accused already appeared in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate's Court on 17 July 2023 and remanded in custody until 26 July 2023 for a formal bail application. The Limpopo Hawks continued with the investigation until two more suspects in the murder case of Sergeant Makgatho were successfully traced and arrested in Lebowakgomo policing area on 18 July 2023. The pair is expected to appear in the Lebowakgomo Magistrate's Court on 20 July 2023 to face charges relating to murder.
