WESTERN CAPE - Members attached to SAPS Woodstock were patrolling crime hotspots in the Salt River area when they noticed a vehicle that pulled in opposite the Salt River mortuary.

The passenger of the vehicle got out of the vehicle and walked up and down in the street acting suspiciously. Upon noticing the members of the SAPS he jumped back into the vehicle which sped off.

They called for backup and pulled the vehicle over. On searching the vehicle and occupants, they found a firearm in a sling bag on the suspect.

The 24-year-old suspect was arrested on a charge of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He will appear in the Cape Town Court once charged

The Western Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Patekile applauded the members for their attentiveness and swift actions  which led to the arrest and confiscation of the firearm that is suspected to be used to commit serious and violent crimes.
