On Wednesday, 17 June 2015, provincial and local police units, including the Department of Home Affairs, SANDF, Department of Labour, Municipal and Provincial Traffic Departments conducted an integrated operation within the Springbok and Port Nolloth Clusters.

The operations focused on illicit drugs, contraband products, undocumented persons, illegal firearms and ammunition, unlicensed businesses and compliance visits to chain stores and businesses.

Various alleged drug outlets were searched during the early hours of Thursday morning. The following successes were achieved during the operation:

  • 35 Traffic fines were issued to the value of R17 800-00;
  • One person arrested for fraudulent operators disc, license disc and number plates;
  • 4 persons were arrested for Dealing in drugs;
  • Dagga, Tik, Mandrax and Cocaine with an estimated value of R40 000 was seized.
  • Other items confiscated during the searches included an electronic digital scale, a hunting knife and a stun gun.

Two roadblocks were held on major routes during which fines were issued for various road traffic offences.

The ‘clean up’ operation was welcomed by the public who also assisted by providing information about crime and criminals in the area
