MTHATHA - Quick response by members attached to the District Task Team led to the arrest of three suspects aged between 34 and 52 in Mthatha for armed robbery perpetrated at business premises and possession of suspected stolen property.

In the early hours yesterday morning, Friday 19 January 2024, it is reported that five unknown males entered into a business place and forced the security guard at gunpoint to close the shop's door. They then took the generator and loaded it into a gateway vehicle that was parked outside.

The arrest follows after Police members were alerted about a complaint of armed robbery and they patrolled the CBD in a lookout for the described vehicle. The vehicle, fitting the description was intercepted in Eagle Street,  with only one occupant whom on investigation took them to a house in Ntilini locality, Sibangweni A/A where the generator was hidden.

Thorough investigation guided Police to a house where they arrested other suspects who were involved in the robbery. Two accomplices are still at large and Police are still tracing them. The vehicle (Nissan X-Trail) that was used in commission of crime was confiscated by Police.

The trio is due to appear Mthatha Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 22 January 2024.
