A 31-year-old wanted man was arrested in Jacobsdal on Friday morning, a day after his face and particulars had been published in a national newspaper.  He was identified by residents in Ratanang Township where he had been hiding and his whereabouts was immediately reported to the police.

A warrant of arrest was issued by the Magistrate in Johannesburg for Lebohang Moakamedi (31) after he had allegedly stabbed a man to death with a knife at a tavern in Eldorado Park, Johannesburg in 2015.  They were allegedly involved in a heated argument before Lebohang stabbed him.

He disappeared from Eldorado Park a few days after the incident and was only traced to Jacobsdal by the vigilant, co-operative members of public who reported him to the police in the area. He was taken to Eldorado Park where he will be appearing before court on murder charges soon.

“We are thankful for the co-operation of community members in Jacobsdal and would like to encourage others throughout the nation to take note of the exemplary deeds of Jacobsdal residents”, said Lieutenant General Thabethe Mpembe, the Free State SAPS Provincial Commissioner. General Mpembe also extended a word of appreciation for the swift reaction of Jacobsdal police members who were involved in effecting the arrest.
