Media Statement WESTERN CAPE - The multi-disciplinary team comprising of the Hawks National Priority Violent Crime, Serious Commercial Crime Investigation, Priority Crime Management Centre, Crime Intelligence and City of Cape Town conducted a takedown operation that started from 18 February 2024 until 19 February 2024. It is alleged that during 2021 the group was involved with the fraudulent purchasing of vehicles, fraudulent registration documents and the issuing of fraudulent taxi permits. This resulted in banks suffering a loss of millions of rands. During the investigation five targets were identified and the fifth target was assassinated in Kuilsrivier during 2023. On Sunday, 18 February 2024 a 46 year old suspect was arrested in Boksburg and will appear in transit at Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on 20 February 2024. A 34 year old suspect handed himself over to the Hawks and will appear at Goodwood Magistrate's Court on 21 February 2024. A 39-year-old suspect was arrested on 19 February 2024 in Witbank and will appear in transit at the Witbank Magistrate's Court on 21 February 2024. The fourth suspect was arrested in Khayelitsha on 19 February 2024 and will appear at the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on 21 February 2024. The Provincial Head of the Hawks in the Western Cape Major General Mathipa Makgato commended the multi-disciplinary team for their perseverance in the execution of these arrests and hope that justice will be served.
