On Tuesday, 23 June 2015, police in Kimberley arrested a 46-year-old man at his house in Roodepan, suspected of committing rape. Police believe that the suspect may have committed and attempted rapes in Kimberley and its neighbouring towns within the Northern Cape. The suspect was arrested by members of the Kimberley and Galeshewe Cluster Intervention task team. Police had been on the suspect’s trail since the start of 2015.

A metallic gold painted Toyota Corolla used in commission to the crimes was seized by police. It is alleged that the suspect pretended to be a Good Samaritan and offered lifts to women; in return he robbed and raped them. During the search of his house and vehicle, handbags, cell-phones, sunglasses and identity documents believed to belong to his victims were found.

Police are appealing to any persons who believe that they were victims of the arrested suspect to contact Kimberley police station; to identify the belongings in possession of the suspect.

The investigating officer, Detective Captain Doggie Magugu, can be contacted at 082 469 0578 / 053 838 5588.
