EASTERN CAPE - The SAPS in the Eastern Cape Province will be launching Operation Shanela, a new operational policing strategy incepted on 08 May 2023 to tackle crime with high-density policing. Since its inception, Police in the Eastern Cape have achieved phenomenal results with 4 259 suspects arrested for serious and violent crimes including murder, rape, robbery, possession of firearms and drugs.

The Minister of Police, General BH Cele, the Deputy Minister, Hon C Mathale and the National Commissioner of SAPS, General FS Masemola will be in attendance to officiate the event.

The event will unfold as follows:

PHASE 1:    WALKABOUT IN HELENVALE

Date: Friday, 25 August 2023

Time: 09:00

Venue: Media may congregate outside SAPS Gelvandale and leave with the entourage from there.

PHASE 2:    LAUNCH OF OPERATION SHANELA

Date: Friday, 25 August 2023

Time: 10:00

Venue: Gelvandale stadium (Gelvan Track)

PHASE 3:    VISIT TO MALLS/OPERATIONS

Date: Friday, 25 August 2023

Time: 13:15- 15:00

Venue: Kenako Mall, Operation in New Brighton and Walkabout in the CBD
