Killing of police officer: Police launch manhunt for suspects

Police have launched a manhunt for the suspects who killed a police officer attached to Protection Service, Constable Sello Machete 36, last night at Stinkwater, Themba policing area. He died at the scene and his girlfriend was slightly injured in the head and she is at local hospital for treatment. The suspects stole a policeman service pistol before driving away in his vehicle. A case of murder, attempted murder, hijacking and robbery of a firearm is being investigated.

It is alleged that the deceased was visiting his girlfriend. While they were sitting in the vehicle, two unknown man confronted them. They were pointed with a firearm before several shots were fired. A police man was shot in the upper body and died at the scene. The suspects then pulled him and his girlfriend out of the vehicle (state vehicle) and drove away. The vehicle was later found abandoned few kilometres away. It is believed that the motive for the attack was robbery of a firearm.

Suspects are still at large. Police are also appealing to anyone who may have information to come forward. Any information may be forwarded to Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or with an SMS to Prime Media Crime Line at 32211 at all hours.

Police will work around the clock to hunt down these senseless killers of a police officer.
