POLOKWANE - The South African Police Service, together with the South African National Defence Force, have on Tuesday 02 April 2024 at about 11:00 embarked on a Stakeholder Relation engagement at Limpopo Army Support Base in Polokwane. Sector 2 Limpopo Batallion Commander Lieutenant Colonel Mthandazo Mkhize has warm heartedly hosted the Operational Commander of SAPS Limpopo TACJOC Colonel Happy Magwai to a collaborative engagement in an effort to enhance the mandatory objective of eliminating the scourge of illegal mining of minerals and sand in the province through the Multidisciplinary High Density Operation Vala Umgodi. Operation Vala Umgodi is currently underway in mostly affected provinces within the Republic of South Africa which includes Limpopo in a collaborative efforts by the SAPS, SANDF, Department of Home Affairs, and Department of Mineral Resources and Energy. Lieutenant Colonel Mkhize and his members of the Sector 2 Limpopo Batallion have walked about the SAPS Limpopo TACJOC entourage comprises of the Operational Commander Colonel Happy Magwai, Pilla 3 Combat Commander Lieutenant Colonel Orapeleng Motecwane, Pilla 2 Proactive Commander Captain Zakhele Khumalo and Pilla 5 Media Relations Officer Sergeant Tsietsi Lamola through the Army TAC Operational Centre and presented the updated Batallion War Diary with the status of the operation and particularly how operations are planned, conducted and evaluated. In conclusion, Colonel Magwai appreciated the selfless efforts to combat illegal mining and assured the endless collaborative engagement with the SANDF in the fight against crime.
