Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation (Hawks)

NORTH WEST - Kashif Ali (47) and Sabir Syed Shah (63), who are both Pakistani nationals and illegal immigrants, were granted a Preservation Order worth R529 000 by the North West Division of the High Court, Mahikeng on 07 April 2024.

The order emanates from an intelligence-driven disruptive operation that was conducted in February 2023 by Rustenburg K9 following information received about a stolen copper cable alleged to be in a certain flat at Zendeling Street, Rustenburg.

Upon arrival at the scene, the premises were searched and sixteen (16) bags of copper cable as well as four loose stripped copper cables were found. A BMW found at the scene was also searched and R210 000.00 was found inside the boot. The copper cable, cash and the BMW were seized and the duo was arrested on charges of unlawful possession of suspected stolen goods and Contravention of Immigration Act.

The matter was referred to Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation and Priority Crime Specialised Investigation who fully investigated the case which led to the Preservation Order being granted on the motor vehicle and the cash.
