Western Cape Police management welcomes lengthy sentences meted to Flakka gang members

WESTERN CAPE - The police management of the Western Cape welcomed the lengthy sentences meted against key figures affiliated to the Flakka-gang who have been terrorising the community of Muizenberg for some time during 2019 when they disrupted them with gang related activities and serious and violent crime which were committed by them.   

During 2019, detectives attached to the Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) registered and launched a major investigation involving the Flakka gang and Jamiel Jacobs AKA Charra who was seen as the lead figure of this criminal entity. The investigation sought to quell the continuous gang violence in the Muizenberg area at the time. This gang group was violent of nature and was shooting and killing several rival gang members randomly and traded in commodities such as drugs and firearms.

During 2019 detectives of the AGU traced Jamiel Jacobs to Paarl where he was hiding in a security complex and arrested him.

On 12 April 2024, Jamiel Jacobs, and two others were finally convicted and sentenced in the High Court in Cape Town on the following offenses

Jamiel Jacobs was sentenced as follows:
Count 1:        Poca  -3 years
Count 11:      Murder-15 years
Count 12       Unlawful Possession of a firearm -7 years
Count 14;      Murder and Attempted Murder x2 – Life imprisonment
Count 15:      Attempted Murder -8 years
Count 16 :      Attempted Murder -8 years
Count 17 :      Possession of Unlicensed Firearm -7 years
Count 19 :     Attempted Murder -8 years
Count 20 :      Att Murder -8 years
Count 21 :      Possession of Firearm and Ammunition -7 years

  Simone Gordon sentenced as follows :
Count 48:      Dealing in Drugs -10 years suspended for 5 years
Count 49:      Dealing in Drugs -10 years

Dillon Walker sentenced as follows 
Count 48:      Dealing in Drugs -10 years

The provincial commissioner of the Western Cape, Lt Gen Thembisile Patekile had nothing but praise for the diligence and commitment of the investigating officer and those who had assisted him in bringing these key figures in the gang-world to book. He expressed the hope that the lengthy sentence meted against Jacobs will act as a deterrent to those involved In gang activities in this province.
