JOE GQABI DISTRICT – Members’ continued efforts to fight the drug scourge yielded good results during "Operation Shanela" yesterday at Burgersdorp.

Members attached to Burgersdorp SAPS were busy with high visibility patrol when positive information was shared with them at Mzamohle Township. Members proceeded to the identified premises and, upon searching they recovered 33 parcels of dagga, seven half star mandrax tablets, and an undisclosed amount of cash.

The 34-year-old suspect was arrested, and the drugs were confiscated. He is set to appear in Burgersdorp Magistrate’s Court today.

In an unrelated incident, members attached in Aliwal North K9 Unit assisted by members from the POP Unit also followed up on positive information. They proceeded to a mobile food container in Murray Street used to sell food, they searched it utilizing the Police dog "Rusty" and seven sachets of tik and six mandrax tablets were confiscated.

The 38-year-old suspect was arrested, and he is appearing before the Aliwal North Magistrate’s Court today.

The Joe Gqabi District Commissioner Major General Lindelwa Vellem welcomed the arrests and confiscations and also thanked the community for sharing positive information in ensuring a drug free zone.
