Hawks arrest North West Parks and Tourism Board official linked to alleged theft of 51 rhino horns

NORTH WEST - The Hawks' Serious Organised Crime Investigation arrested a 48-year-old suspect, who is an employee at the North West Parks and Tourism Board, on Wednesday 08 May 2024, for his alleged involvement in the theft of 51 rhino horns.

He was arrested at his workplace following an investigation that linked him to a business burglary at the North West Parks and Tourism Board on 26 June 2023, where 51 rhino horns were allegedly stolen.

The suspect will appear in the Mmabatho Magistrates' Court on Thursday, 09 May 2024, facing charges of business burglary.

His accomplices, Elias Mangande and Lefa Mankgaba, were arrested last year in July. Mankgaba is out on bail, while Mangande is still in custody.

Major General Patrick Mbotho, the North West Provincial Head of the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation, has welcomed the arrest and commended the sterling investigative work by the members.
