WELKOM - Thato Tumahole (19) was reported missing as she was last seen on the 10 May 2024 when she left home in Rheederspark, Welkom. The mother looked for her at several houses but all in vain.

A thorough investigation was conducted which led to the arrest of a 22year-old boyfriend on 16 May 2024 at 15:30 and he appeared on in Welkom Magistrate Court on 20 May 2024.

The case was postponed until 27 May 2024 for bail application. There are several social media clips trending, claiming that Thato has passed on. On 22 May 2024 from 08:00 the Mine Rescue Team, Welkom K9 Unit with investigation team went to the scene at the Old Shaft mine of Harmony Welkom.

The joint search team went underground to retrieve the charred remains of a human being.

The discovered human remains will be sent for forensic investigation. We appeal to everyone to stop speculating about the discovered human remains and allow the forensic results to confirm if they can be connected to the disappearance of Thato or not.
