Media Statement WELKOM - Police are looking for information on a murder investigation in Thabong after the body of a man was found with multiple stab wounds in an open field. On Tuesday, 26 December 2023 at about 08:40, a lifeless body was found in an open field at the back of Edu College, Welkom. The deceased had several stab wounds on the head, face and body and was bleeding. The body was identified by the aunt while at the Welkom Mortuary as Zithembile Brian Mgqeku (42) who lived in Ngabazeli Street, Thabong. A preliminary investigation reveals that on 25 December 2023 at about 20:00, he went to a nearby shebeen to buy beer. That was the last time he was seen wearing grey jeans, grey All Star tekkies and a cream tracksuit top.
