POLOKWANE - A 28-year-old man accused of stabbing his aunt to death at her home in Phalaborwa was remanded in custody without bail.

Hanno Steinberg, 28, was taken into custody shortly after police responded to a report of a female victim attacked at her home in Phalaborwa town on Tuesday, 04 July 2024, at about 15:00.

The Police with assistance from the community, swiftly arrested the male suspect. Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect entered his aunt's house and found her lying on the couch where he stabbed her with a knife. The victim's father tried to rescue her while she also ran outside for safety however, the suspect overpowered both of them and stabbed the victim multiple times.

The suspect was eventually stopped by a neighbour.
