Media Statement from Gauteng Media Centre As police are continuing to search for the killers of a policeman in Orange Farms, Constable Norman Muhlari, footage of suspects who might be involved was found at the scene and police are appealing to anyone who may identify them to come forward. Anyone with information may contact the investigating officer, Colonel Wiseman Sephungu at 071 363 3730 or Crime Stop at 08600 10111 at all hours. The policeman was killed in the early hours of Thursday morning outside the Orange Farm train station. His colleague, a warrant officer, was assaulted and taken to the hospital. He has since been discharged. Their firearms were stolen by the suspects. This happened while they were visiting the train station guards. They were attacked by the heavily armed suspects who are part of the gang believed to be terrorising our communities. The Gauteng Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Lesetja Mothiba is also calling upon the members of the communities to rally around the police in their effort to deal effectively with these heartless criminals. In the meantime over the weekend, police have seized nineteen (19) handguns with ammunition and arrested 25 suspects who are involved in serious and violent crimes around Gauteng. These suspects will be charged with several crimes including murder, armed robbery, business robbery, hijacking and possession of unlicensed firearms when they appear at the various Magistrate Courts on Monday. In one of the serious incidents on Friday late in the afternoon, a gang of two men driving a black Range Rover shot and wounded a man in Littleton before taking a substantial amount of money from his vehicle. The victim later died at the hospital. Members of the community informed the police, and that resulted in a high speed chase until the suspects’ vehicle crashed into a wall in Rabie Ridge. Two suspects were arrested. It was also discovered that the gate-away vehicle had been stolen in Sandton earlier this month. Four handguns were found in their possession. The suspects may be linked to other violent crimes as investigation is continuing. At this stage they will be charged with murder, armed robbery, possession of unlicensed firearms and a stolen vehicle. Other firearms were found in other areas including, Moroka, Benoni, Edenvalle, Evaton, Magaliesburg, Honeydew, Kwa-Thema and Moffatview. In Katlehong members of the community informed the police about the owners of the spaza shop who were in possession of an unlicensed firearm. A 9mm pistol was seized when police searched the premises and two people were arrested. They are due to appear at the local Magistrate Court tomorrow.
