POLOKWANE - On Wednesday 14 September 2022, the Provincial Commissioner of Limpopo Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe joined by the District Commissioner of Mopani Major General Mashava, the Station Commander of Giyani SAPS Brigadier Serakwana and his Management converged at Nsavulani village to officially hand over a newly constructed house to a needy family.

The honour of handing over a house to the Maluleke family was inspired by a visit to give the family food parcels, only to realise they were living in an almost dilapidated house without windows, flooring, proper hygienic facility and fencing.

Brigadier Serakwana together with his Management pledged that they will return to help the family. Indeed after 49 days, a house was officially handed over to a family that was headed by a single woman of five minor children.

The programme was graced by the presence of Hosi Mahumani and his Chief Heads, Mopani District Community Policing Forum (CPF) Chairperson Mr Shimange and Ward Counselor Mr Eddie Mabasa.

The programme started with courtesy visit at Hosi Mahumani Traditional Authority and a briefing session commanded by Master of Ceremony Sergeant Shai stationed at Provincial Joint Operation Center (PROVJOC).

Opening and prayer was rendered by Senior Administration Clerk (SAC) Tsholanang Phuti attached to the Provincial Corporate Communication and Media Liaison Services.

Brigadier Serakwana welcomed everyone present at the briefing session and Maj Gen Mashavha briefed the functionary on the proceedings of the day. Afterwards, the entourage proceeded to Maluleke family. Nsavulani village.

The second part of the program opened with a word of prayer by Chaplain Ngovheni who read a scripture in Proverbs 19:17 which says;

"He who has pity on the poor lends to the Lord and He will pay back what he has given". Brigadier Serakwana welcomed everyone and acknowledged all the guests according to the protocol and further highlighted how they intervened in assisting the disadvantaged family.

"Out of their pockets and determination, Giyani SAPS managed to fence the yard, install windows, floor and paint it in collaboration with the Community in Blue members who were also helpful during the construction.

Maj.Gen Mashaba rendered the purpose of the event supported by the words of support from the CPF and Ward Counsellor followed by a key note address presented by the Provincial Commissioner who commended the excellent and good work achieved by the Giyani Police.

Highlighting the commendable charitable work displayed by the police she indicated that "Police members are not only concentrating on criminal matters but also have social responsibilities to members of the community.

"Mentioning that the legacy of Nelson Mandela is not only celebrated in the month of July as a Commemoration of the late President of the Republic of South Africa. The SAPS is also committed to a social responsibility work in bettering the lives of the society. I also would like to encourage the public to positively continue work hand in hand with the police due to the reduction of criminal cases reported in Nsavulani village".

The dignitaries later conducted an official opening and handing over of the house to the Maluleke's clan who were surprisingly delighted that indeed the SAPS committed to their promise of returning to assist, which seemed unbelievable at the time.

Hosi Mahumani encouraged the masses to stand and unite together as one and being a formidable army that will stand against all forms of evil. He further appreciated Lt. Gen Hadebe and her team for the excellent work done.

In his address, Hosi Mahumani pledged to buy a bed and also offered some groceries. Provincial Commissioner pledged to purchase a TV set whilst Maj-Gen Mashaba committed to donate a table with chairs.
