MEC' for transport and community safety, Ms. Violet Mathye began by greeting the attendees and further said, "I'm honored to preside over this occasion that has gathered some of the country’s sharpest minds to craft solutions to society’s pertinent challenges. We have converged to this place because of our shared vision of building a peaceful country that we all envisage living in. We have also invited to this Indaba,  institutions of higher learning and other social partners, because we do acknowledge that the government alone does not have solutions to the society’s many problems. It is also encouraging to see young people taking a keen interest in the safety and security matters of their country. There is a correlation between the use of drugs and the high level of crime in our communities.

As we navigate towards the women's month of August, I want to implore all of you to use this occasion to heighten the fight against gender-based violence, child abuse, and femicide," concluded MEC.

HOD for Transport and Community Safety, Mr. Steven Matjena engages the youth in strengthening and intensifying youth crime prevention through collaborative partnership.

Various stakeholders, Sister departments including the Department of Sports, Arts, and Culture, the Department of Correctional Services, the Polokwane Municipality's community safety department, extended their support to the young people and urged them to abstain from criminal activity ,to participate in programs and initiatives that aim to lower the likelihood of crimes happening and their possible negative impacts on people.

Four commissions were introduced, and the following topics were discussed:

1. Enhance and promote youth crime prevention through the YCP strategy to effectively combat crime and violence in Limpopo.

2. The impact and consequences of substance abuse Gangsterism versus diversion and rehabilitation programs for young people.

3. The impact of moral fiber investment in young people and the role of youth in combating GBV&F and sexual offenses.

4. The use of social media/online spaces by youth, the negative impact, and what dangers can befall them, mitigating factors that can be applied to lessen the harsher impact.

On the second day of the Indaba, commissions presented their presentations.

Brigadier IM Mhlongo concluded the function by praising the attendees, who humbled him with their good attitudes and participation.

"GBV leaves a stain on our bodies. How can we lessen the problem of Gender-Based violence?

In order to combat the evil of GBV and crime in general, You,the youth of Limpopo, must rise up and work together with the police, the public among other stakeholders to combat this. Come forward and expose the drug lords in our communities who are enticing young people to consume narcotics," remarked Brigadier.

Young people who participated offered suggestions to lessen the evil of crime.
