The Umkomaas SAPS are currently investigating a case of armed robbery after two victims were robbed of their personal belongings whilst driving along the N2 freeway near Umgababa on the South Coast.

It is alleged that yesterday, a motorist and his girlfriend were driving along the N2 freeway when suddenly, they stumbled on a rock placed on the freeway, which caused one of his tyres to burst; subsequently the vehicle stopped. While attempting to change the damaged tyre, they were approached by three suspects at gunpoint. The victims were robbed of their cell-phones, handbags, cash and jewellery.

“We would like to warn motorists to be vigilant and avoid stopping in isolated areas if possible; they should rather call the police for assistance on our Crime Stop number 08600 10111 ”, advised the KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni.
