BLOEMSPRUIT - The Bloemfontein High Court has sentenced Tumelo Mothupi (46) to 24 years imprisonment for murder of his 51-year-old ex-girlfriend.

On Saturday, 19 October 2024, at about 23:00, the accused visited his ex-girlfriend's home. While at the house, he stabbed her with a knife and also hit her with a brick, leaving her to die.

The accused fled the scene but was seen by a family member as he was leaving. His whereabouts were initially unknown; however, through intelligence-driven efforts executed by the police team in collaboration with Sergeant Tsholo of the Bloemspruit SAPS Detective Branch, he was later apprehended. Tumelo got arrested and was charged with Murder on Sunday, 03 November 2024.

The accused was denied bail and remained in custody until the Bloemfontein High Court sentenced him to 24 years imprisonment on Wednesday, 28 April 2026.

The Investigating officer was Detective Sergeant Sechaba Tsholo.
