The Cullinan Stock Theft Unit and Endangered Species Commander Lieutenant Colonel Greyling applauded the members for their exceptional efforts which saved several species of Pangolins around the province.

The investigating officers from the Stock Theft Unit: Captain Okkie Van Der Walt, Sergeant M Kemp, Sergeant AEH Badenhorst and other members, conducted a sting operation.

In one incident during August 2017 the members followed information about the suspects who are trading Pangolin around Mamelodi East area and managed to arrest 5 males suspects.

The dedicated team continued with their investigations which led to the two male’s suspects being arrested for possession of a Pangolin in Johannesburg area. In all various Pangolin cases, the police have succeeded in seizing and rescuing the Pangolins.

All the suspects are appearing in different Courts around Gauteng. However one accused has already been found guilty and was sentenced to a fine of R 10, 000.00, suspended for 4 years with the choice of two years imprisonment.
