South African Police Service is all about improving the lives of its employees. This was clear during the Adult Education and Training graduation ceremony. On 30 August 2017 Saps held a graduation ceremony at Horse-Shoe Motel. The people who were graduating consisted mainly of general workers. Welcoming the guests Major General Johan Bean said those who were graduating went through difficulties as their families needed them as well. About forty graduates were present at the graduations. Lesedi Mpuang from Literature Project (the external service provider giving classes to AET students) said the day was a symbol of return on investment in education. He said working with adults is stressful because they themselves are carrying their own baggage of life at home. Mpuang commended SAPS for supporting these projects saying it not only about empowering employees and giving them a chance for promotions but it also helps the employees to set a good example to their children that education is important. The Deputy Provincial Commissioner Major General Japie Riet believes that training is of paramount importance to SAPS as it assists to fight the scourge of crime. Esmarelda Follet this year’s top achiever from Calvinia says she feels good about herself now because she feels she is trying to better herself. She encouraged her fellow colleagues not be ashamed of their past but start doing something to improve their situations. The day had altogether 34 graduates and it was celebrated at the Horseshoe Motel in Kimberley.
