Media Statement LUSIKISIKI - Operation Gijima Tsotsi continued to yield positive results in the Flagstaff Policing Area under OR Tambo District. The last part of the operation focused on prevention of business robberies which are prevalent on Saturdays, stop and searches, suspect raiding and liquor compliance. During the operation, members visited ten (10) taverns/shebeens and closed three (4) for selling liquor without license. Four (4) suspects aged between 35 and 45 were arrested and liquor to the value of R55 000-00 was confiscated. An additional four (4) suspects, aged between 20 and 56 were arrested through suspect raiding and tracing. All these suspects were arrested on assault GBH warrant of arrests. Dangerous weapons including 09 Okapi knives, 1 sword, 1 sword knife, 3 scissors, 1 panga and 1 screw driver were also confiscated. Addressing the members at the end of the operation, Provincial Head: Visible Policing Brigadier Malibongwe Ntsabo expressed appreciation for the support of the District Commissioner and his members in the execution of Operation Gijima Tsotsi. “OR Tambo District members set a very high standard and that standard will be used as the benchmark of all the upcoming operations”, he added. OR Tambo District Commissioner, Major General David Kanuka, on behalf of the Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lt General Liziwe Ntshinga thanked the members for their positive attitude during the past 3 days. He also thanked the support of the Provincial Office during the operations. “We will take the strategy implemented in Lusikisiki and Flagstaff to some other parts of the District that require intervention in dealing with stubborn crimes”, he committed in his concluding remarks. All the suspects will appear in the Lusikisiki Magistrates Court on Monday, 15 March 2021 on various charges. Ends
