Media Statement from Mpumalanga Media Centre Nelspruit - Today, the Provincial Commissioner of the South African Police Service in Mpumalanga, Lieutenant General (Adv) Mark Magadlela, urged the public to land a hand in finding the responsible culprits who committed business robberies in Mpumalanga. The request by the Commissioner stems from two business robberies that took place yesterday in White River and Bethal. In White River, the Manager of Pick `n Pay alleged that he was with a security guard in his office when two unknown men - armed with firearms - emerged while another stood guard outside the shop. The manager and guard were both held at gun point and were forced to the ground whilst the robbers demanded the keys to the safe. The suspects allegedly managed to unlock the safe, take an undisclosed amount of cash and fled the scene. The complainant followed the suspects and noticed that they jumped into a white VW Golf 5 with the registration number: HDY257GP – which had been parked outside - and sped off. In Bethal, the incident took place at approximately 00:15. A security guard at Jet Store alleged that he was on duty sitting outside the store when he was suddenly confronted by two unknown men - armed with pistols. They forced him to the back of the store where they tied him up and locked him inside an office. He immediately saw two more men and saw the four suspects use a pad lock key to open a roller door and gained entry into the store. The suspects allegedly managed to disconnect the alarm system and used a grinder to cut open a metal cabinet where they stole approximately 80 new cell-phones to the value of R150 000-00. In both robberies no one has been arrested hence we call for the public to assist with information that can lead to the arrest of the suspects.
