NELSPRUIT - A 38-year-old suspect is due to appear in Court soon, for unlawful dealing with dagga.

The suspect was nabbed following a tip-off from a whistle blower about the vehicle that was transporting dagga from Masibekela towards Kamaqhekeza direction yesterday, Thursday 10 October 2024 at about 16:00.

Police responded swiftly to the matter, and the silver Toyota Hilux matching the description was spotted in Mangweni Trust.

Police's efforts to stop the vehicle proved to be fruitless as the driver ignored their instruction.

A high-speed chase ensued, which led the driver with no option but to surrender and stop.

A search was then conducted, and it was during this time when the astute members found 20 bags containing about 200.7 kilograms of dagga worth at about R500 000. According to information, most of the bags were probably going to be delivered in the North West Province.

The suspect was charged with dealing in dagga. The vehicle that was transporting the consignment was also confiscated for further investigation.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the vehicle belongs to the suspect's father.

The Acting Provincial Commissioner of SAPS in Mpumalanga, Major General (Dr) Zeph Mkhwanazi has welcomed the arrest and further commended the partnership that was displayed between community and the Police in the fight against trafficking of drugs.
