Media Statement MPUMALANGA - Cornelius Nelles Mammetse (42), appeared before the Mbibane Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 25 October 2024, facing fraud and theft charges. His appearance follows after a warrant of arrest was authorised and executed by the Hawks Middelburg and Secunda based Serious Corruption Investigation Unit together with Road Traffic Management Corporation (RTMC) on Friday, 25 October 2024. During 2021 information was received regarding the Mbibane Magistrate Court clerk who is misrepresenting divorce clients as well as the community around the Vaalbank area, by taking their money telling them that is for the services of the Sheriff. It is alleged that the accused was also taking money from the motorists who needed to be assisted with traffic fines. Between 2019 and 2022, the accused took money from different victims in need of court services. The accused promised to assist the victims with court services according to their different needs. An undercover operation was conducted on 21 February 2022 and evidence was obtained. The accused was arrested and brought before court on Friday, 25 October 2024 and was granted R3000.00 bail. His matter was postponed to 14 November 2024. The Acting Provincial Head Brigadier Danie lauded the Investigating team for ensuring that the accused are brought to book, and said that the public officials who gets involve in corruption will face the might of the law.
