Police secure 20 years imprisonment for murder

PARKTOWN - The South African Police Service (SAPS) commends Detective Sergeant Thami Mazibuko of the Gauteng Provincial Serious Violence Crime Unit for his tireless efforts in securing a 20-year imprisonment sentence for Nduduzo Ndumiso Shezi (28).

On 20 December 2022, Shezi and accomplices attacked a resident in Tembisa, fatally shooting him and stealing his licensed firearm.

The Johannesburg High Court found the accused guilty on murder, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition and robbery. Shezi was sentenced to 20 years direct imprisonment for murder, 15 years for possession of unlicensed firearm, 5 years for possession of live ammunition without license and 3 years for robbery aggravating. All the sentences will run concurrently.

Sergeant Mazibuko's diligent investigation led to Shezi's arrest in March 2023.

This sentence demonstrates our commitment to ensuring justice for victims and their families, we applaud Sergeant Mazibuko's exceptional work in bringing perpetrators to justice.
