EDENBURG - The Edenburg Police arrested a suspect last night who allegedly broke into an elderly lady’s house in town, assaulted her and fled.

The investigation team worked around the clock to search for the suspect and made a breakthrough last night when they arrested a 33-year-old suspect in the township of Edenburg. The suspect was found in possession of some of the stolen items from the house.

On 23 April 2023 at about 11:35, an elderly lady (91) was at home in her bedroom when the unknown suspect entered her room. The suspect gained entrance to the house by forcefully opening the kitchen door. Without saying anything, he assaulted her and fled the scene. The victim sustained serious injuries to her head and face. She was taken to a hospital in Bloemfontein.

The suspect will appear in court for the first time this morning at the Edenburg Magistrates Court on charges of housebreaking and theft, as well as assault with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
