GAUTENG - The Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation's Serious Commercial Crime Investigation is poised to achieve more successes in an effort to combat fraud and corruption. This follows a significant achievement when Alida Schoeman (55) and her entity were charged on Tuesday, 19 November 2024. This marks a pivotal moment in our ongoing efforts to bring to book those implicated in fraudulent activities. A case of fraud violation of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA) was registered at Hillbrow police station in June 2018. It is reported that Mrs Schoeman defrauded the complainant by requesting guarantee fees to purchase diesel from Sasol, valued at R55 million. The accused entity, Golden Sun, failed to repay a liability of R7.5 million as a loan from Lombard Insurance Company Limited. Adding to the gravity of the case, a yet to be arrested employee at Golden Sun allegedly created a fraudulent email, purportedly instructed by Mrs. Schoeman, to deceive Sasol by altering the original guarantee limit from R55 million to R60 million without Lombard Insurance's authorization. The illicitly obtained funds were deposited into various bank accounts controlled by Golden Sun, leading to the complainant suffering a financial loss of R60 million. Alida Schoeman made her first appearance at the Palm Ridge Specialised Commercial Crimes Court, sitting at Palm Magistrate Court on 19 November 2024. The case has been remanded until 27 February 2024 for the tracing of the outstanding suspect.
