Media Statement from Free State Media Centre Viljoenskroon: “The selfless act and dedication of Sergeant Khitshane Mokgothu led to the arrest of four suspects and confiscation of illegal firearms, shortly after the commission of an armed robbery in Viljoenskroon. He did not only display leadership skills as a relief commander, but did not allow prevailing circumstances to stop him from ensuring that the citizens of this country are protected, at all cost”, said Lt. General Thabethe Mpembe. On Tuesday 2016-06-21 at 14:00 a member of community entered the police station screaming for help. She reported that there was robbery in progress at a clothing store in Viljoenskroon. At the time there were no police vehicles available at the station. Sergeant Mokhothu who was in charge of the Shift on duty and Constable Tselane Maine jumped in his private BMW 320i sport and pursued the suspects who were said to be driving in a white BMW 3 Series with GP registration. He spotted the suspects on R76 road towards Kroonstad. Kroonstad police were activated for backup. About 10km to Kroonstad, Sergeant Mokgothu and Constable Maine managed to stop the suspect`s vehicle and arrested three suspects whilst Kroonstad members arrested the fourth suspect who was on a run in one or the farms. The police recovered a white BMW vehicle which belongs to one of the suspects, three firearms (a 9mm, revolver and baby brown) with serial numbers filed off, ammunition, muti, an undisclosed amount of cash and a number of cellphones that were robbed from the store. All suspects aged between 25 and 42 will appear at Viljoenskroon Magistrate`s court on charges of business robbery and possession of unlicensed firearms soon. Media enquiries: Lt.
