Media Statement KIMBERLEY - The police in Kuruman arrested a 36-year-old male suspect following the discovery of an endangered, threatened or protected species in Perth, Heuningvlei in John Taolo Gaetsewe District on Friday, 07 July 2023. The police received information about a live pangolin that are being kept at a cattle post in the Perth area in Heuningvlei. On arrival the police found the male suspect and requested permission to search the place, which was granted by the suspect. Members found two pangolins inside an unused water crib. The suspect was arrested and charged for possession of an endangered species under the National Environmental Management Biodiversity Act (NEMBA), 10 of 2004 and will appear in the Kuruman Magistrate Court on Monday, 10 July 2023. The John Taole Gaetsewe District Commissioner, Major General Johny Besnaar applauded the members for reacting timeously on information provided by the public. He said, crimes happening in specific places that the police cannot immediately reach need local safety strategies spearheaded by the Community Safety Forums (CSF). Ends
